Dr. JaVar Myatt-Jones: How Does Integrative Medicine Benefit the Patient?
Dr. JaVar Myatt-Jones is a family medicine practitioner and
member of the team at Shoals Primary Care, a private practice based in Alabama.
A dedicated, well-reviewed family physician in the field for nearly a decade,
Dr. Jones looks to provide each patient the individualized, one-on-one care and
treatment they need to overcome and prevent illness, as well as to engage in a
healthier, longer lifestyle.
As a family physician, Dr. JaVar Myatt-Jones employs a
comprehensive approach to patient care, examining, diagnosing and treating the
patient as a whole while providing the expert counsel and advice so crucial to
health and wellness. Part of Dr. Jones’ approach are elements of integrative
medicine, a philosophy that takes a broader, more holistic look at the causes,
prevention of disease and the promotion of good health and wellness.
So, what are the advantages of integrative medicine to the
patient?
--It addresses the root causes of the illness, rather than just
the symptoms. With integrative medicine, the physician examines all factors or
elements which may have played a role in the development of the illness,
providing the patient the opportunity to eliminate the cause at the source.
--It requires a partnership between physician and patient. In
the field of integrative medicine, the patient is a more active participant in
their own health, working with the doctor to develop solutions that benefit
their health in the long-term.

Dr. JaVar Myatt-Jones: Passion for Medicine
Dr. JaVar Myatt-Jones is an Alabama family physician whose
passion for medicine has guided his career. He has an excellent reputation
among patients and colleagues alike, and his longstanding love for his field continues
to evolve with each passing year. The following excerpt is taken from a
statement made by Dr. JaVar Myatt-Jones about his progression as a medical professional:
“During my second year of course
work I discovered the true meaning of what a doctor is. I learned from an
excellent physician that a doctor is a teacher, an adviser and a scholar,” wrote Dr. JaVar Myatt-Jones. “In my third year of medical school, I realized
internal medicine is a field that expands my investigative drive for more
answers. . . Following my third year of medical school, I decided to take a
leave of absence pursuing a patient oriented, clinical research fellowship. .
. When I decided to accept the
fellowship award from the Doris Duke Foundation, I was convinced that
participating in a year of intense clinical research would be most beneficial.
This opportunity not only addressed my many questions of interest, but also
addressed exactly what type of physician I ultimately wanted to be.”

JaVar Myatt-Jones: The Changing Face of Geriatric Medicine
JaVar Myatt-Jones lists geriatric medicine as one his areas of
expertise, this is a very interesting field at the present time. This is the
medical realm that is dedicated to the treatment of senior citizens, and it has
always been important, but it is particularly relevant right now. There is a
very significant shift in the demographic makeup of the United States underway
during our current era. After World War II, there was somewhat of a population
explosion in our country that has been dubbed the Baby Boomer phenomenon.
Between 1946 and 1964, an unprecedented number of babies were born in America.
Now, all of these people are attaining senior citizen status, and it is having
a significant impact on doctors like JaVar Myatt-Jones.
To gain an understanding of the situation through hard numbers
crunching, look no further than the Social Security Administration. As most
people are aware, Social Security is a benefit program that becomes available
to eligible senior citizens. A senior can accept a reduced benefit at the age
of 62, but the age of full benefit eligibility is between 66 and 67 depending
on the applicant's year of birth. The SSA reports that they are accepting about
10,000 applications for Social Security each and every day. This volume is
expected to persist into the foreseeable future. When you absorb this fact of
life, you can see that the need for doctors like JaVar Myatt-Jones who have
experience with geriatric medicine has never been greater. These individuals
are doing our society a great service, and we all owe them a debt of gratitude.
